Design Ideas For 2021 And Beyond

Home is more important that ever before and we’re excited about all the home design ideas and trends we brought back from this year’s International Home Builders Show in February. What were some of our main takeaways from the 3-day show? Let’s take a peek!

Creative spaces for wine | Get that wine out of the cellar and put it on display with under-used spaces like under the stairs, at a stair landing, and more.

Flexible spaces and rooms that serve multiple purposes | The days of reserving an entire room for a guest room that’s only used once or twice a year have come and gone. Think creatively with your study by adding a Murphy bed that doubles as custom bookcases, or display shelves when the bed isn’t in use.

Creative ways for work and learn from home spaces | With a lot more people now living in a work-from-home or learn-from-home family situation, we’re getting creative with efficient use of space by moving the walls, splitting rooms to create multiple work stations, or taking a wall and crafting a built-in work station that only take up one floor to ceiling wall.

Let the sun and the fresh air in with glass walls, walls of windows, and oversized sliding doors with invisible screens | Open up that wall with a sliding glass door that fully opens. And to keep things really clean and more contemporary, add an invisible screens that don’t take away from that gorgeous view. Add windows above windows. Add windows in under used spaces directly below the roof line to let more light shine in.

Indoor gyms and spaces for our kids | With a year of social distancing under our belts, we’re no longer interested in spending the money for the unused gym membership. So take the same monthly payment and enhance your living space with a home gym, indoor basketball court for the kids, and more.

Expand your island with an attached table and open cabinets | Add some flair to your kitchen island with a built-in, furniture style table with gorgeous chairs that wow your family and friends.

Express yourself with jewelry like lighting | Your lighting is the perfect way to add some sizzle to your home. Think about your home’s lighting as you would a jewelry accessory that makes a statement about who you are!

Multi-generational homes with private entries and shared family space | As home and land prices increase, so does the need for thoughtfully designed multi-generational living. We’re creatively designing spaces for grandma and grandpa or the adult kids to have their own private spaces with separate laundry, kitchenettes, and private entries while sharing common family living spaces like the great room and kitchen.

Incorporate organic and natural materials | From  live plant walls, live edge wall mounted bars to reclaimed wood accent walls to leather wall treatments, we’re embracing the calming feeling of a touch of nature in our homes.

Expanded and enhanced outdoor living | We’re okay with smaller, more affordable homesites as long as we have fabulous outdoor living spaces. Think about sectioning off your yard for entertaining, gardening (we all love farm to home), lawn space, and children’s play space. Creative concrete and paver treatments, covered outdoor living spaces, cozy seating, and a built-in fireplace are just perfect for an evening of entertaining with friends and family.

Welcome to the dirty kitchen | The butler’s pantry has joined forces with the pantry to be one gorgeous room that’s perfect for meal planning, prepping, and storage.

Take the hearth and the fireplace to new heights | We’re ready to elevate our fireplaces and our hearths and stop taking up valuable floor space with an outdated brick hearth. And, we’re styling up these focal points with cool solid surface treatments and sleek drywall surrounds.

Super size that laundry and mud room | Why has one of the most used spaces in our homes been neglected for so long?  We’re creating stylish and happy workspaces that will have you wanting to enjoy a glass of wine while you work! With multiple generations now living under one space, how about creating a space that allows for plenty of built-in, beautiful cabinetry, a farmhouse style sink, a furniture-like folding station, and not one but two sets of energy efficient washers and dryers!

Space for the techie in your life | We all know them most important people in our home are mom and our resident techie! It’s time to give them their own well designed workspace that can easily be carved out of an underused niche area, off of the mud room, or tucked away in a sectioned off area of the stairs or wider hallway. By going with built-in designs, we’re able to maximize spaces.
