With the inagural CiTiSCAPES home show still several months away (October 8 – 23), we thought we would take an opportunity to introduce you to the first family planning to call Martin’s Gate in Newport their home. Meet Chuck and Barbara Thomas, seen above with their daugthers who have now graduated from The University of Cincinnati and attending Western Kentucky University, Residents of Fort Thomas, KY, Chuck and Barbara, the proprietors of Grassroots & Vine in Fort Thomas, moved to Northern Kentucky ten years ago for Chuck’s work. Now empty nesters, this energetic couple is embracing the next chapter of their lives in their new custom home by Homes by Gerbus. In a location that offers easy access to both of their daughters and Grassroots & Vine, Chuck and Barbara are looking forward to making new memories with family and friends.
In a recent interview with Barbara, we asked her to share a little about themselves and their decisions to build a custom home with Homes by Gerbus in Martin’s Gate.
Q. WHAT ARE THE FUN FEATURES YOU’RE MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO IN YOUR NEW HOME IN MARTIN’S GATE?
A. We’ve just finalized the home plans with builder, Alan Gerbus, and Architect, Darren Myers. We’re both most excited about the rooftop rec room and the panoramic city views of downtown Cincinnati. It’s just breathtaking at night and the best views on the Kentucky side of the Ohio River! The close second for both Chuck and myself has to be the gourmet kitchen and the custom wine display.
Q. YOU AND CHUCK CALL FORT THOMAS HOME FOR YOUR FAMILY AND YOUR BUSINESS. WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE ON NEWPORT AND MARTIN’S GATE?
A. There’s just so much to love about Newport. The location allows us to easily get to both of our daughters and also to our restaurant, Grassroots & Vine. Newport is centrally located within minutes of Cincinnati, Covington, Bellevue, and Fort Thomas. But, what we love is that Newport continues to grow – new restaurants, retail, and coffee shops are opening every month. A couple of our favorites are The Baker’s Table and Purple Poulet, which are within walking distance of Martin’s Gate. This location is also convenient to more practical needs like Kroger, Target, and Walgreens, just around the corner.
Q. YOU MENTIONED YOUR RESTAURANT GRASSROOTS & VINE. TELL US MORE!
A. Located on Fort Thomas Avenue, in Fort Thomas, Grassroots & Vine is a neighborhood restaurant, bar, and wine shop. We offer an extraordinary menu of farm-to-table meals, an extensive wine selection, handcrafted cocktails and craft beer, tinned fish, and gifts for the pantry! Located in the Historic Midway District, our restaurant offers a unique dining and shopping experience that allows you to enjoy food and drinks from regional, national, and global farms and local sources.
Q. DID YOU CONSIDER ANY OTHER HOME BUILDERS AND IF SO, WHY DID YOU DECIDE ON HOMES BY GERBUS?
A. When we started on this journey, we were looking for a reputable custom home builder with history in Greater Cincinnati area. We met with a few builders but ultimately decided on Homes by Gerbus because of the quality of their homes, the building process, and the customer service.
Q. WE KNOW THAT YOU’VE JUST FINISHED THE HOME PLANS AND SELECTIONS ARE UNDERWAY. WHAT HAS BEEN THE MOST PLEASURABLE PART OF THE EXPERIENCE TO DATE?
A. What we’re enjoying the most is Alan’s hands-on approach as our home builder. It’s one of our favorite parts of building our dream home. We’re also enjoying getting to know Alan and his entire team – EVERYONE is so professional. They say the best plans start on a cocktail napkin! We’re loving seeing our dream home go from a conversation to reality thanks to the help of Homes by Gerbus.
Q. IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WOULD LIKE OTHERS TO KNOW ABOUT WORKING WITH ALAN AND THE TEAM AT HOMES BY GERBUS?
A. We are so excited about living in a custom home with million dollar views and that our home will include everything on our wish list. We believe we made the perfect decision working with Homes by Gerbus to build our dream home.
