Steve and Heather recently completed the design build process with Homes by Gerbus and sat down with our marketing director to share what it was like to build a custom home with Homes by Gerbus. Our thanks to this lovely couple who took time away from unpacking their boxes to talk with our team.
Q. WHAT IS IT THAT YOU LOVE ABOUT YOUR HOMESITE?
A. Set away from the road, with a pond and woods, we have plenty of privacy and serenity. After years of dreaming about living away from it all and looking for the perfect place to build our retirement home, we feel like we’ve found our own piece of paradise in Morrow, OH!
Q. DID YOU SPEAK WITH OTHER HOME BUILDERS BEFORE MAKING YOUR DECISION TO BUILD AND WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO BUILD YOUR CUSTOM HOME WITH HOMES BY GERBUS?
A. We purchased our land years ago and then went about the task of finding our home builder. With the assistance of our Realtor, we interviewed several home builders. After being introduced to Homes by Gerbus, we felt immediately comfortable with builder, Alan Gerbus. We felt like Alan understood our goals. An excellent listener, Alan gave us the confidence we needed to move forward with Homes by Gerbus. After meeting with him, discussing our wants and needs, and walking our land, we knew that Alan and his team would be the ones to take us from dream to reality.
Q. MOST PEOPLE BUILD THEIR HOME FIRST AND THEN A SEPARATE GARAGE. BUT YOU BUILT THE GARAGE (AS NICE AS MOST HOMES) AND THEN YOUR CUSTOM HOME. WHY?
garageA. When we started the process, Steve was still working in the Dayton area and the commute from Morrow just wasn’t feasible for his busy practice. But we wanted to enjoy our property as soon as possbile. We knew that Steve eventually wanted a detached garage to shelter the equipment needed to maintain the property. So, we started there! Once Steve’s retirement date was established, we started on our home.
Q. WHAT WAS THE DESIGN BUILD PROCESS LIKE AND WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT YOUR HOME?
A. What an awesome experience. Not only did we have the best builder in southwestern Ohio, we were truly blessed with our Homes by Gerbus recommended architect, Ken Bowerman, and interior designer, Jill Neverovich. We love that part of the design build process included the services of a professional interior designer who helped us pull the entire home together. Alan, Ken, and Jill did such a wonderful job of actualizing our vision and taking it from ideas, to paper, to a place for our family to call home.
What do we like most about our home? With so many beautiful features, excellent craftsmanship throughout, and such a livable plan, it’s hard to pick just one thing we love about our home. But if we have to pick one thing, it would have to be the open design of the main living area. Everyone loves open concept living but our home takes open concept living to a different level. Our large eat in kitchen opens to a fabulous great room which opens up to a splendid entry way. Everything really is a work of art in our home from the floors to the beams and everything in between.
Q. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT YOU WOULD LIKE US TO KNOW AND SHARE WITH OTHERS ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH THE TEAM AT HOMES BY GERBUS?

When our friends ask us if there’s anything they should know before building a custom home, we say, “Talk with Homes by Gerbus!” Alan and Nate (our project manager) are both very attentive to details. They were prompt, responsible, and available when needed during the entire process. Thank you for making this one of the best experiences of our lives.
